What happens when the wounds are just not visible enough?
Do I have to scream and shout?
Turn my body inside out?

What happens when the scars and bruises hide on the inside?
Am I still wounded?

Carve a new identity for me, would you dear?
Tell me stories—spin me fables.
Tell me I’m broken—tell me I’m disabled.
Lie to me if you want to.
Fight with me if you need to.

But what happens when my wounds are just not visible enough?

What happens when the scars and bruises hide on the inside?
Am I still wounded?
Am I still fucking wounded?
Do you consider me still wounded?

Hurt me, lie to me, and hate me.
Follow what others believed of me.
Why won’t you let me live?
Why won’t you let me breathe?

What happens when the wounds are just not visible enough?
Yes, I guess I’ll fight and shout,
Tell the whole world what I’m about.

Darling, what happens when the scars and bruises hide on the inside?
Finally, you see that I am wounded.
Now you believe that I am wounded.
